Our role, as Western Province Maccabi (WP Maccabi), is the bringing together of fellow Jews, both local and international, by using SPORT as the tool to do so. We aim to achieve this through cultural, educational and social activities, and ultimately cultivating and encouraging sporting activities in accordance with the principle of “A Healthy Spirit in a Healthy Body”.
Our emphasis is on participation, fun and fair play. We value our sporting successes and strive to accept defeats in our competition teams with good grace. Our approach is on learning, not winning. Our goals are to develop good sportsmen and to promote good sportsmanship
The World Maccabi Games, more commonly known as the Jewish Olympics, takes place in Israel every 4 years, and the 19th running is scheduled for July 2013. Furthermore, we also encourage participation in the European, Australian and Pan-American regional Maccabiahs.
Over and above this, and quite possibly more importantly, through its volunteers, WP Maccabi is also committed to improving the quality of sporting activities available to all Jewish participants throughout the year. This is being achieved through coaching clinics, regular training sessions, internal & external tournaments and leagues, as well as registering in competitive leagues not participating over the Sabbath.
